Pavé vs. Plain Band Engagement Rings

Pavé vs. Plain Band Engagement Rings

Pavé and plain bands create very different priorities in an engagement ring. Pavé adds surface sparkle, while a plain band keeps attention on the center stone and metal form.

Pavé bands

Pavé bands use small stones set along the shank. They add detail and light but also require more maintenance and careful sizing.

Plain bands

Plain bands emphasize metal, proportion, and center-stone architecture. They are generally easier to resize, polish, and maintain.

Durability

Durability depends on band width, metal thickness, stone setting, and wear habits. Very thin pavé bands can be more vulnerable than appropriately proportioned plain bands.

Wedding-band pairing

Both can pair with straight or curved bands, depending on the engagement-ring basket and bridge. Flush fit is a construction issue, not simply a pavé or plain-band choice.

Which should you choose?

Choose pavé for added surface sparkle. Choose plain metal for simplicity, easier maintenance, and a stronger focus on the center stone.
