Open Gallery vs. Closed Gallery Engagement Ring Settings
The gallery is the structure beneath the center stone. Whether it is open or closed affects appearance, cleaning access, height, and construction.
Open galleries
An open gallery leaves visible space beneath or around the stone. It can provide a lighter profile and easier cleaning access.
Closed galleries
A closed or cup-like gallery encloses more of the lower stone area. It may create a substantial look but can limit access beneath the stone.
Wedding-band fit
Gallery style alone does not determine whether a straight band will sit flush. Bridge clearance and the width of the setting at finger level are more important.
Choosing between them
Choose an open gallery for visible construction and cleaning access. Choose a more enclosed gallery when the design requires greater visual solidity or coverage.
