A band can narrow slightly as it approaches the center stone while retaining more substance through the lower shank. This creates a fine face-up appearance without making the entire ring equally thin.

Refine the prongs

Petite claw prongs often look lighter than rounded prongs when properly proportioned. The prongs still need enough metal at the base and adequate contact over the stone.

Keep the basket clean

An open, well-proportioned basket can appear lighter than a bulky closed cup. Open construction should still include a secure gallery or support structure and practical access for cleaning.
